Pregnancy Photoshoots: What to Expect During a Pregnancy Photoshoot

For many women, pregnancy is a celebrated and cherished time, especially for those experiencing their first pregnancy, and many women and couples choose to remember this moment in their life with a pregnancy photoshoot.

Whether you should do a pregnancy photoshoot, and what to expect are among many of the questions that are debated among expectant mums, and it is understandable considering how much your body changes during your pregnancy.

In this article, we will address the most common questions and concerns we hear about pregnancy photoshoots, including the best time in your pregnancy to have the photoshoot, what you should wear and why you should have one in the first place.

Why Should I Have a Pregnancy Photoshoot?

Pregnancy is different for every woman, some have a brilliant pregnancy and enjoy every moment, whereas others suffer from every symptom possible.

For some women, pregnancy is the result of years of hoping and wishing for a baby, and in some cases can be after years of infertility treatment. So for a lot of women, their pregnancy is very precious to them and they want to capture this moment forever.

Pregnancy photography is a way of freezing a moment in time that you can cherish and look back on for years after you have had your baby. It can capture your feelings and evoke treasured memories of carrying your baby in your stomach, and many women may only be pregnant once in their lifetime, so a pregnancy photoshoot is a great way to capture this special moment in time.

What can I expect from a pregnancy photoshoot?

During a pregnancy photoshoot, it is my job to capture a beautiful image of you and your pregnancy and to make you feel at ease in front of the camera.

When you arrive at the studio I will greet you and talk with you about what you would like from the shoot. You should arrive at the studio ready to begin your session, so if you are doing your own hair and makeup please make sure you have done this before you arrive so we have plenty of time to take amazing photos.

We have a bathroom where you can change into the outfits you will be wearing and there will be snacks and beverages on offer throughout the shoot.

I will help you feel confident and beautiful in front of the camera, and I will help you choose an outfit that looks great, give you advice on how to pose, and help you to get into the right position to capture some magical photographs.

How can I feel comfortable during my pregnancy photoshoot?

Unless you are a professional model, it is very unlikely that you would feel immediately confident and comfortable in front of the camera, but this is where we come in.

During your pregnancy photoshoot, we will do everything to make you feel comfortable to get the very best results out of your shoot. I am here to support you throughout your shoot and to help you feel and look your best on the day.

As part of our maternity packages, we have some beautiful maternity dresses and fabric options to choose from, and you can have your hair and makeup done at the photoshoot. Just simply add the services you require onto the package when you book.

Here are some great tips for getting the best out of your photoshoot and for feeling confident on the day

● Take time in the days leading up to your shoot to pamper yourself, get your nails done, your hair trimmed and your eyebrows tweaked.

● If you plan to do your own hair and make-up on the day, have a practice beforehand so you know how much time to set aside on the morning of your shoot. Natural makeup and loose wavy curls look brilliant in a pregnancy photoshoot.

● For a healthy glow make sure to moisturise your skin the night before, and the morning of the shoot, and don't forget your bump!

● Wear your favourite clothes, underwear, and jewellery on the day. Wearing something that makes you feel good will give you a boost on the day.

Will I need to be naked during my photoshoot?

On the day of your photoshoot we will have a discussion to talk through the looks we plan to do during the shoot. If you want to do a naked shoot we are more than happy to do this, and you can get some truly stunning photographs of you and your bump showing off your beautiful pregnancy shape.

However, if you are not comfortable with this we are happy to take photos of you in one of our many gorgeous dresses or luxury fabrics.

When is the best time to book my pregnancy photoshoot?

The ideal time to have your pregnancy photoshoot is between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy as your bump will look the roundest during this time and we will be able to make the most of your beautiful pregnancy shape.

In order to avoid disappointment we advise that you book in with us as early as possible after your 12-week scan, so we can reserve the perfect time slot for you and your baby.

Should I include my partner and other children in the photographs?

Including your partner and children in your pregnancy photos help to create some wonderful memories of your pregnancy and can help siblings-to-be feel connected with the new baby. Couple photographs look amazing and are a fabulous keepsake to remember your pregnancy.

Our Full Experience Maternity Package includes photographs with your partner and/ or any children you would like to be in the photos. Unfortunately our Mini

Maternity Package does not include photos with your partner or children.

If your partner and/or children are joining you in your photoshoot they should arrive dressed and ready for the shoot. We advise that they wear plain clothes that they are comfortable in and fit well, and don't be afraid to match. Although some people don't like to match their partners or children, matching colour palettes or styles is a subtle way to create a cohesive image and can provide some outstanding photos.
